We take it for granted, yet most of us aren't aware, or fully appreciate, how absolutely essential water is for our total health and wellness. Here's why:
  • Water makes up more than 2/3 of our weight.
  • Our brain is 90% water.
  • Blood is 82% water.
  • Our lungs our 90%.
  • ALL cells and organs depend on water to function.
  • Water helps keep your body temperature normal.
  • Water is also in lymph, a fluid that is part of our immune system.
  • Water is needed for our digestive juices.
The list of benefits is extensive, but the bottom line is that without water your body would stop working properly.
  • Mild dehydration is the most common cause of daytime fatigue.
  • Dehydration is often the primary reason for joint pain, indigestion, insomnia, and headaches.
  • Without water, nerve fibers shrink which reduce their ability to send electricity signals to organs, including the brain.
  • A person can't live more than a few days without water.
It is estimated that 75% of people go through their day in a state of mild dehydration because of lack of thirst. When there's thirst, it's too late. Your body is already in a state of dehydration.
 
It is recommended that you consume foods and beverages containing water that's half your body weight in ounces daily - twice that if you're doing physical activity. For most, that's more than the long-time recommended eight, 8-oz glasses of water every day. However, that's an easy-to-remember staring place and then add to it!
